Baby Brokers Scam XII

So - we have seen what happens when couples who want children are seduced by a scammer, or fraudster, that promises them a child but is only interested in money.

In a sense, the baby broker scam is similar to the advance fee (or 419 scam) of Nigerian scammers.  The fraudster is demanding money up front before a service is actually rendered.  The scam continues as the fraudster continunually complains about additional fees or unexpected expenses that are driving up the costs of the actual adoption.  The couple seeking a child is asked to pay these fees and expenses with no end in sight.

As stated at the beginning of this thread, the really heartbreaking issue of this fraud is that the scammer is taking advantage of people when they are at the most vulnerable.  But, of course, this is the modus operendii of fraud in general - finding people when they are at their weakest, or finding their weak point, and taking advantage of it.

When considering any adoption, once again as stated at the beginning of this thread, especially international adoption, both state law and federal law need to be considered.  It is impossible to "jump" the system.

On to another thread next week.
